Instagram SEO Is Having a Moment (And Most Brands Are Missing It)

Instagram is quietly turning into a search engine. And cracking the SEO strategy behind it has become one of my favorite things to nerd out on.

I've been doing a lot of research on this lately, and it keeps raising the same question: are the days of fun, witty captions over? Personally, I don't think so. But for certain buckets of content, leaning into keyword-rich captions isn't just smart - it's necessary.

When I approach brand marketing and social strategy, I always come back to the same rule: think like your consumer. What would someone who actively has a need for your brand be searching? How do you keep the context conversational but specific enough to show up?

A few things worth keeping in mind:

  • Strip back the emojis and use your words to tell the story.

  • Know your niche - who you're for, what you help with, and what you don't talk about.

  • Dig into your analytics and look at which posts are driving the most reach, profile visits, and actions taken.

  • Aim for 3–4x a week, quality over quantity always. And visual consistency still matters - your content should be recognizable in search and reflect your overall brand identity.

Caption writing is becoming more and more of an art form. We're all still figuring it out in real time. But the brands that treat it with intention are the ones that will show up first.
